David Wall

1924 – 2005

David Wall passed away peacefully at his home in the Salem Home on July 17, 2005, where he lived for the past 12 years.

After his parents died, he lived on the same yard as his sister and brother-in-law, Lester and Helen Whitman.  He then moved onto George and Agatha Whitman’s yard for quite a while until he was moved to Salem Home.  Thanks again to George and Agatha for the time they spent with him.

His sister Agatha, 9 nephews and 6 nieces and their families will lovingly remember David.

His parents, David D. and Katherine Wall, one brother in infancy, sister Katherine Wall, sister and brother-in-law, Lester and Helen Whitman, also brother-in-law Peter B. Thiessen, predeceased him.

David enjoyed woodwork at Salem Home which was easily understood why, as at a certain time of year, he believed that it was time to go to the hills to make firewood.  Singing was a great pastime for him.  When he would sit on his swing, during the summer many a time we would hear him sing beautifully.  Two of the most common songs were, “Lasst Uns Den Weg durch Thal der Zeit Gebeugt und Betend Gehn” and also “Welt Ade Ich Bin Dein Muede”.

Special thanks go to John Loeppky who came to spend time reading to David from the Bible many a time; Marie Funk who visited with him every Thursday; also Chaplain Dave Friesen and all the wonderful staff at Salem Home.  May God bless you all.

Funeral service was held on Thursday, July 21, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the Morden Sommerfeld Mennonite Church with Rev. Dave Wiebe officiating.  Interment followed at Osterwick Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of David Wall to the Salem Foundation Inc.  165 15th St. Winkler, MB R6W 1T8.
