Dave MacDonald Dutton
1954 - 2003
On Friday, October 10,
2003 Dave Dutton passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 49 years.
Dave was predeceased by his father, Hugh in 1956, his first wife Nancy in 1988 and his Mom Marion in June 2002. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 5 years, Lois Dudgeon, his daughter Karrie Anne who lives and works in Vancouver and his sister Patty of Moose Jaw, Sask.
Dave was born in Saskatoon on February 23, 1954 where he lived and worked as a Power Engineer before moving to Edmonton in 1990 and Winnipeg in 1997. He was a graduate of City Park Collegiate and was known to brag about the accomplishments of the Cowboy football team.
Dave’s life revolved around two seasons: baseball and hockey which he pursued with a vengeance. He achieved Senior “A” fastball and Intermediate “A” hockey levels in both Sask. & Alta., playing in many championships across Canada but also in Australia and Hawaii. He was also an accomplished Jr. Men’s fastball coach. His most loyal fans were his Mom and daughter.
It was in 1997 during a Western Canadian Men’s & Women’s Masters ball tournament in BC that Dave met the other passion of his life, Lois and were married on August 14, 1998. Since moving to Winnipeg, he played on not 1 but 4 ball teams during the summer: the Hillary Blues, Titans, Toledo Masters and Bramblers. His talent and skill as a pitcher did not go unnoticed in the Crestview Men’s Fastball League. In fact, he was a “Dave of all trades” capable of playing just about any position and well. In winter, he was on the ice with the Maples hockey team in the Innercity Old Timers league. When he wasn’t on a ball diamond or the ice, you could find him at the gym.
“U.D.”, as he was affectionately called by his Wpg. nephews had a zest for
life! That passion showed up in other areas as well. Dave had a strong work ethic and believed in doing any job well. Many friends and relatives can also attest to his culinary skills; “His wings were the best, right Reid!” As a friend, his loyalty was hard to beat.
We would like to thank the Winter Club staff and ambulance personnel for their prompt and compassionate care during Dave’s last moments.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday October 18, 2003, 2:00pm at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd. Winnipeg, MB.
