Arthur William Peers

1923 – 2004

Arthur William Peers passed away peacefully at the Boundary Trails Health Centre on Tuesday, September 21, 2004. Art was surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren at his bedside.

Left to mourn are his wife of 30 years, Marie; 2 daughters; Lorraine and Wes Sawatzky; Judi and Ron Adams; 3 sons; Art and Gwen; Rick and Daphne; Thomas; 5 grandchildren, Derek and Jillian Sawatzky, Brent Adams; Drew and Tyler Peers; 2 sisters Celia and Jack Spring; Freda and Henry Lemieux both of BC; He also leaves to mourn numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews along with many friends.

Art was predeceased by his parents and his first wife Anne in 1966.

Art joined the Navy in 1942 at the age of 17. He served on many different ships during his tour of duty. He was better known to his shipmates as “Sea Biscuit”.

Upon his return from the war, Art joined the Manitoba Power Commission in 1945. He started off as a lineman. Most of his career was spent in Manitou. He transferred to Morden in 1969 to his new position as a hot tool lineman until his retirement in 1982. He had worked for Manitoba Hydro for 37 years.

During his retired years Art and Marie traveled and camped throughout Canada. Art spent many hours making trinkets to hand out to people as he loved to see them laugh.

Art was a Golden Life member of the Legion and received the Caregiver of the Year award presented in October 1998 by Joan Nystedt.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bester, Dr. Jackson and Dr. Perrson and staff of the Boundary Trails Health Centre.

Memorial service was held on September 25, 2004 at the St. Thomas Anglican Church at 2:00 pm. Ash interment followed at the Manitou Cemetery.
