Anne Frieda Balko (nee Trost)

1924  - 2004

After her courageous battle with cancer, Anne Balko (nee Trost) passed away at Boundary Trails Hospital on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at the age of 79.  Her husband, Erwin, predeceased her in November in 2002.  She is survived by two sisters and one brother and their families.

Anne was born in St. Ambroise, Manitoba on October 3, 1924 and was baptized the same year.  Anne later confirmed her faith in 1967 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Portage La Prairie.  She married Erwin Balko on October 7, 1967 also at Redeemer.  He was the love of her life.  Together they farmed for 20 years before retiring to Winkler in 1992.

Some of Anne’s favorite pastimes were gardening, cooking, knitting, crocheting and playing games and cards with friends.

The congregation will remember Anne as a very special friend whose faith in Christ guided her throughout her life.  She cherished her long and happy life with Erwin.

The service was held on Monday, March 1, 2004 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Winkler at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Alexander Klages officiating.  Interment followed at the Winkler Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association.
