They enjoyed 40 years together. They had 12 children in Mexico. In May of 1954, they, with a number of other Mennonite families, emigrated to Canada. They arrived in Port Rowan, Ontario and did field work for the summer. Here another daughter was born in October. For the winter the family again moved. This time to B.C. to be with extended family. On May 27, the last of the Thiessen clan, a little girl arrived; their first baby to be born in a hospital, in Tillsonburg, Ontario. In 1961 the family made their final move and settled in the Rainy River District, near Pinewood, Ontario.
